Blizzard of 2013

Thankfully the Blizzard of 2013 has come and gone, and only resulted in a brief 8 hour power outage. I thought it’d be fun  to set up a timelapse of the storm. I set it up on my Canon T2i and had it run from 8:30am Friday, February 8th, till the 3pm the next day. Unfortunately, I still haven’t picked up an AC Power Pack for the camera, so I had to stop 2 separate times for an hour to charge. Despite that challenge, I think it does a good job representing the ~2 feet of snow we had dropped on us over the weekend.

The video was linked to by WBUR (Boston’s NPR Station), Watertown Patch, and the Watertown Tab. Thanks to all who checked it out!

The LonelyReviewer Show

the-lonelyreviewer-show-episode-1-a-new-hopeLonelyReviewer.com is an Entertainment blog I’ve been running since 2008. Back then, I hosted a weekly video show with one of the other contributors to the site called “The LonelyReviewer Show.” I’m happy that after years of talking about it, we’ve finally brought the show back, this time in audio podcast form. I’ve been focused on posting regular quality content weekly, and the monthly audio show will be an added bonus.

Head on over to LonelyReviewer.com to check out the first episode of the show! We are waiting for iTunes approval of the show, but for the time being, you can listen and download the show right off the site.

Happy New Year!

2012 was quite a year! Screening “Friends I Haven’t Met” at the Coolidge was definitely the highlight, but lots of new projects and collaborations made it an excellently productive year.

divorceI had a great time recently collaborating with the Levinson Brothers and Rob Kutner for a music video starring Colin Hanks and Kimmy Gatewood. The song, “Divorce Makes a Family Twice as Big” is from Rob and the Levinson Brothers new album, “It’s OK To Do Stuff: Songs Left Off Free To Be You And Me” thats available on iTunes. Proceeds from the sales of the album go to St. Jude’s Hospital.

The artwork was drawn by Fred Grandinetti, and I animated the drawings in After Effects. It was my first foray into this type of animation, and I’m really happy with the way it turned out. Check it out, hope you enjoy!

Once again, Happy New Year!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I wanted to share a video I just cut together for Planet Extech – a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to head down to the 2012 Punkin Chunkin World Championship, and shoot some content for the brands social network. I cut that together to a fun montage, using thermal and visual footage we captured of the weekend. Hope you guys like it!

“friends I haven’t met yet” Screening at the Coolidge Corner Theater

I’m excited to announce that my short film, “friends I haven’t met yet,” will be screening for the month of November at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline, MA. The Coolidge is an amazing venue, and one of the most beautiful theaters in the country. It’s an amazing art-deco theater that is independently owned, and not-for-profit. It’s exciting for my Boston-themed film to be screening there, and I’m thrilled for people to be able to see it on the big screen!

“friends I haven’t met” is screening before A Late Quartet, and Holy Motor – check the film pages for the show times!

May 2012 Updates

It’s been a very very busy year so far, both at work and on my various side projects. Over at LonelyReviewer.com we just finished our extensive coverage of the 10th Annual Independent Film Festival of Boston (IFFBoston). This year more than ever, we covered the festival extensively. We saw almost 20 films, reviewed all the ones we could (that were not under press embargo), as well as provided video content both for LonelyReviewer, and on behalf of the festival. Some of the videos include a Q&A with Todd Solondz (Dark Horse), and Bobcat Goldthwait (God Bless America). I love covering the festival, as well as seeing the amazing films that I’ve come to expect from the festival.

I’ve done some really fun projects for FLIR/Extech the past few months, specifically for Planet Extech, the brands social network which I manage. While on location in Las Vegas for the Inframation conference, with the help of the Research & Science cameras, we shot this awesome video of guns shooting with a high speed thermal camera.

Right now, I’m working on some other projects in various capacities that I’ll definitely post on here soon. I love the new format of my site, I wanted to put more of the focus on my content rather than my blog, and I definitely like the way it turned out!

Happy Spring!

2011 Wrap-Up

So. 2011. How’d it go? I’d say I had a very successful year.

In 2011, I produced quite a bit of new work. Ranging from some shorts (‘I’m Sorry I Killed You,’ and ‘Friends I Haven’t Met‘), fun trailers and web videos (Labor Day 2 and Boy Shooting Nerf Gun), and Lonely Reviewer’s increased coverage of IFFBoston, it was a busy year!

So, what’s on tap for 2012?

I’m always looking to produce new projects, and collaborate with friends/colleagues on theirs. I’ve already got some things coming down the pipeline!

I hope to produce a few more shorts this year, and hopefully some that coincide with the themes I’m exploring in the projects I’ve done this past year. Shooting on DSLR is making these projects so much easier to produce, and increases production value 10 fold. With the addition of my own portable sound recorder to my kit in late 2011, things are only going to get better from here.

I appreciate you guys for checking out my blog, and my site! Happy New Year!

New Short Film: I’m Sorry I Killed You

I shot this little short with my brother Razmig a few months ago on a weekend vacation with my family in New Hampshire. I’ve been trying to shoot more and more run and gun short films like this one with my DSLR. I love the look the camera captures. This was something we came up with randomly and thought it’d be a fun exercise.

It also stars my good friend Brandin Tumeinski, my favorite shot is the opening shot, I just love the way it enhances the suspenseful feel of the piece.

2011 Brattle Trailer Smackdown Finalist: Labor Day 2

Unfortunately, the success of last year didn’t repeat, but I still had a great time making Labor Day 2.

Labor Day 2 was 9 hours of shooting, followed by at least 60 hours of editing, color correction, and compositing – and another 10 hours of sound work by my friend Gregg Swiatlowski. With 31 effects shots, (the missile in the middle took about an hour to create, another 30 minutes to fine tune) we upped the ante from the first. I do feel like Labor Day 2 definitely was an increase in production value and quality.

Here it is, in its Youtube glory, Labor Day 2: Unholy Union. Please enjoy the film in 720p!
